When he did his latest album Shida za Dunia with songs like Mawoko na Mawoko, he seemed to be on the right track but the likes of Mega Dee have overtaken him and he is having a hell of a time catching up with them.
Like some music maniacs in Uganda are saying, Chameleon's union with once strong rival Bebe Cool could bring him to the market, which he so much enjoyed 3 years back as a monopoly. The union of the two seemed to have come at the exact time that Chameleon wanted a break through in the music industry once again. His music failed to receive massive acceptance both locally and internationally. At the end of last year, the struggling singer joined the likes of Bobbi Wine who were thought to be soaring on duets.
He performed Mama Wange with Emperor Orlando and there was no doubt the song was fantastic and drove very many Ugandan mothers crazy- no wonder even his album launch at Hotel Africana received a record crowd.
Chameleon also struggled hard to gain international recognition through doing a couple of songs with South African based Dr. Alban but that was the biggest flop of any decision he had to make. The songs received the least media attention and even local radio stations shunned the music.
The latter has become an enemy that Chameleon has to struggle hard to pull to his side or else face another battle in music. One cannot forget mentioning his own problems back in the Leone Island. Being the president of the group, the singer seems to be hitting a dead end. Once close friends and strong artists like Red Banton, Tikitah and a couple of others left him. AND NOW the big one is that his own Vice President Chagga has lately quit the group, at least according to what is running in the media. His leaving does not come as a surprise to many who think that the singer is self conceited, arrogant and does not care about other artistes but is only there to ruin their chances, grab their music forcefully and force them to bend to their toes before him.
However, Chameleon is a singer of all seasons, one who will fight through and overcome hurdles that come his way. Irrespective of the fights, he remains a strong artist by all standards, one who definitely can lift Uganda's music beyond borders. He is loved both locally and internationally and can always be on top when he wants to.
He has made several worldwide tours and his last Europen tour was in Amsterdam in 2009.
